About Santarem
Santarém is a midsize city located in the centre of Portugal; it is
the Capital of Santarém District and the most important city of the
Ribatejo region.
Santarém was founded in VIII B.C., just on the bank of the longest
river that crosses our country - the Tagus River. Between XIII and
XV centuries a large number of Temples/Churches were built based on
the Gothic Architectural Style. Since then, Santarém has been known
as the Portuguese Gothic Style Capital.
Santarém is a city with around 30,000 inhabitants that combines the
ancient traditions with the modernity - temples/churches,
bullfighting, malls, big companies, nightlife settings.
